Writer Dave Wedge of Milton covered a lot of bad news in his journalism career at the Boston Herald, including the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing, which led to co-authoring a best-selling book, “Boston Strong,” with Marshfield writer Casey Sherman. Wedge, 47, now communications director at State6, a Boston marketing firm, most recently released another book with Sherman, “The Ice Bucket Challenge: Pete Frates and the Fight Against ALS,” which launched this fall.

Both books, Wedge said, focus not on tragedy but the hope and resilience of the victims of violence or disease.

“We spent a lot of time with the survivors, and that’s how we approached the writing,” Wedge said of “Boston Strong.” “For us it was far more important to showcase the heroism and resilience and inspiring ways of the people whose lives changed in a moment. No one ever said ‘poor me.’  Everyone was like ‘screw that, this is not keeping me down.’ ”
