What We Call Writer’s Block Might Just Be Insecurity

My writing slowed down this past week. And it also seemed my ideas were hiding from me. Part of it was just general malaise, but another part was a feeling of being stuck. Many writers would identify this as writer’s block. But I think writer’s block is bullsh*t.

I was still writing, just not as much. And I wasn’t frothing at the mouth to sit down to get started. I knew I wouldn’t maintain 100,000 words in two months, but something was still off.

No matter where you are at in your writing endeavor, it’s scary when you put your words out there. Sometimes it prevents us from writing what we really want to. Because we are scared of the potential reaction from our audience.

Being insecure about your writing does not mean you are insecure. It means you are rational. It’s just that sometimes even rational insecurity can become debilitating to the creative process.
