The writer said that Quick Reads, which makes books for those who struggle to read, was “too important to be allowed to end”.

Author Jojo Moyes has donated three years of funding to save an adult literacy project from collapse.

The Reading Agency, which runs the scheme, had announced it would close after this year because they could no longer find the £100,000 a year needed to run it.

But Moyes, 48, said: “Like so many, I was shocked that a scheme helping many people to read was going to close, especially at a time when libraries are struggling for funding.
