To some, an adventure camp might sound like an exhilarating, intensely physical, and potentially perilous activity. For writers, it’s an exciting opportunity to work on everything from fiction, essays, and graphic novels to theatre pieces, TV screenplays, and songs.

Set against the backdrop of the shores of Alta Lake in Whistler, the Writers Adventure Camp is an extended four-day workshop. The camp, which is about to embark on its fourth year, provides emerging authors an opportunity to work closely with notable writing professionals.

The camp was founded and is directed by award-winning writer, editor, and teacher Zsuzsi Gartner. She created the camp with the intention of turning the ordinary one-day workshop into a comprehensive, immersive, and collaborative experience for writers who want to perfect their projects. More importantly, she designed the camp to be multidisciplinary in focus, so that writers could sharpen their skills and improve their creative productivity.

Each writer chooses one of four main workshops to attend in the morning and an additional workshop in the afternoon. A writer’s main workshop will reflect the genre in which they are interested in pursuing. The workshop leader provides feedback and guidance each day on their writing process and, eventually, the final product.
