It’s a wild night here in Nova Scotia and expected to get wilder. We haven’t lost power yet, though it’s flickered a few times
Tens of thousands of homes and businesses have lost power in Nova Scotia and emergency officials warn the worst is still to come as a powerful winter storm moves eastward across the province.
As of 7:35 p.m., Nova Scotia Power reported more than 77,000 customers were without electricity, about one-third of them in the Halifax area. The outages are being blamed on high winds.
Crews for Nova Scotia Power are currently standing down, according to president and CEO Karen Hutt. She said the winds are too high to send the bucket trucks out, but that crews are standing by at 20 locations across the province to respond when it’s safe to continue repairs.
